Home Up

Big Jacks Creek
South of Bruneau
Hosted by "Zipper Lips" Barry and Raina
and their trusty steeds Bit and Dually

Boy, It sure is crazy how the weather can change in 2 weeks! This ride was quite warm,
but everybody went out fairly early so it wasn't too hot when we got back to camp.
It was a good ride with some neat geology and lots of beautiful blooming wildflowers.

New to me: Palmer's Penstemon (Penstemon palmeri)

Heading into the canyon - I am the only one that went this way - the road started out good...

This canyon has such neat geology!

Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis)

A whole bunch of Pale Evening Primrose (Oenothera pallida)

Giant Blazing Star (Mentzelia laevicaulis)

Here come "Hot to Trot" Rita on Ricki and Darell on Chica (coming from #3)

Look at this neat trail that goes right where we want to go, cutting off a loop of the road! (it's steeper than it looks)

The canyon and creek where #3 is way down there

And "Die Hards" are down there

Candy on Sissy and Mike on Jimmy

"Happy Trails" Robin on Scotty (from Mike's GoPro)

#3 was placed perfectly half way through the ride where the horses would need water the most!

Mike trying to point to the big nest (Mike's photo)

It's way bigger than the pictures make it look!

Purple Prairie Clover (Dalea purpurea)

Prince's Plume (Stanleya pinnata)

Purple Sage (Salvia dorrii)

New to me: Bristly Langloisia

Showy Aster/Townsendia (Townesendia florifer)

A random post with lots of nails sticking out of it in the middle of the desert

Cactus

Another random post with an odd metal thing in the middle of the desert

Another new one to me: Large-Flowered Skeleton Plant (Lygodesmia grandiflora)

I came down a motorcycle trail on this side of the arch and was headed for the arch to find the bearings when...

Scotty "spooked" at something - it was the marker in the bush!

The handprints look kind of neat, but I worry about the future of the arch

There are disadvantages to riding by yourself - it's hard to get pictures in neat places
