A nice ride with beautiful scenery and neat rock formations!

Friday Night

Christine found a little aster and a big beetle

Christine and Lee went for an evening ride

I found a little globe mallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua)

Super neat canyon nearby
So, Patty, Stacia, and I had to check it out!

These cliffs were probably made (the rock itself, anyway) when magma
of a volcanic eruption interacted with water causing a violent eruption,
which blasted out pieces of the existing rock, too. The lake sediments, ash,
and pieces of basalt (ejecta) came down and melded into this conglomeration.
This is either a phreatic eruption or a phreatomagmatic eruption.
Since then, water has cut the canyon through it.

Chunks of basalt in a matrix of lake sediments (called lacustrine sediments) and ash.
The exposed parts have been smoothed by water over the years.
